SIBMAS has the following aims:
- to promote practical and theoretical research into the
documentation of the performing arts,
- to establish permanent international contacts between
specialised libraries, archives, museums and documentation centres,
- to coordinate the work of members and to facilitate
international collaboration between them.

Performing Arts Collections uniting past and future
There are many exciting current developments in theatre collections
around the world: the recent Ballets Russes centenary has extended our
knowledge and experience of exhibiting dance materials; new technology
is allowing curators to connect up dispersed collections; the Web is
opening up our collections to a global audience.
July’s SIBMAS conference in Munich provides the ideal opportunity to
hear about new initiatives and develop your contacts with other
professionals from the world of performing arts collections.
Our conference runs alongside the IFTR conference in Munich, so this is
certainly the place to be from July 26th to 30th.
ACTIVITIES
- the organisation of biennial
international congresses, of which the published proceedings
constitute a substantial collection of valuable documents. The
majority of these are now available to members on this website
- the setting up of an International
Directory of Performing Arts Collections
- effective cooperation in important international projects:
- - the International Bibliography of Theatre (IBT),
published annually by the Theatre Research Data Center at Brooklyn
College of the City University of New York
- - the World Encyclopaedia of Contemporary Theatre
(WECT) 6 vols (1994-2000)
- permanent contacts with:
- IFLA (International Federation of Library
Associations and Institutions)

- IFTR (International Federation for Theatre
