WHO WE ARE & WHAT WE DO

SIBMAS has the following aims:

  • to promote practical and theoretical research into the documentation of the performing arts,
  • to establish permanent international contacts between specialised libraries, archives, museums and documentation centres,
  • to coordinate the work of members and to facilitate international collaboration between them.

ACTIVITIES


  • the organisation of biennial international congresses, of which the published proceedings constitute a substantial collection of valuable documents.  The majority of these are now available to members on this website
  • the setting up of an International Directory of Performing Arts Collections
  • effective cooperation in important international projects:
    - the International Bibliography of Theatre (IBT), published annually by the Theatre Research Data Center at Brooklyn College of the City University of New York
    - the World Encyclopaedia of Contemporary Theatre (WECT) 6 vols (1994-2000)
  • permanent contacts with:
    IFLA (International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions)
    ICOM (International Council of Museums)
    IFTR (International Federation for Theatre Research)
    IATC (International Association of Theatre Critics)
    ITI (International Theatre Institute)
    PERSPECTIV (Association of Historic Theatres in Europe)
    TLA (Theatre Library Association)
