Abstract
A long period of
research has led to the recovery and rearrangement of the archival heritage of the Teatro
dell'Opera. The varied nature of the material and its exclusive use for internal purposes
had previously made any utilization of a broader nature impossible, and above all, had
prevented from more inkeeping with the institutional responsibilities assumed by the Ente
Autonomo on its foundation.
The decision recently taken by the directors to set up this additional operative structure
now makes it possible for the general public to view material documenting the history of
the theater from the beginning right up to the present day.
The Historical and Audiovisual Archives hold the following material:
- Sketches and drawings of sets and costumes
- Audience librettos
- Posters and playbills
- Audio recordings (from the 1960s)
- Video recordings (from the 1980s)
- Photographs of performances
- Autograph scores
- Curiosities connected with composers and
artists
- Newspapers and periodicals
- Library
Conveniently situated
on the ground floor by the presidential entrance on Via Firenze, the archives are equipped
with a small reading room and all the technical facilities needed to play the recordings.
Many students and scholars have thus been enabled to carry out specific research and
pinpoint particular details.
