International Theatre Bibliography Commission The Theatre and Theatre Collections / Le théâtre et les collections de documentsInternational

des Bibliothèques et des Musées des arts du spectacle London 1986, pp.113-114 The Chairman stated in his introductory words, that the decision to re-establish this Bibliography Commission complies with the request of the Theatre Research Data Centre at Brooklyn College, City University of New York, to assist and support its project of an international database and bibliography of theatre on the part of SIBMAS. He emphasized the importance of a project of that kind, especially in regard to the fact, that it was designed from the very beginning to utilize the facilities of computerization, which would allow among others the access to the stored information by means of online retrieval. Since the first issue of the printed version of the International Bibliography of Theatre (IBT) is, fresh from the press, already on hand, and the online retrieval facilities will be demonstrated at the Data Base Conference subsequent to this conference, SIBMAS will now have the possibility for further consolidation and improvements of this project. In the following presentation of the project by Benito Ortolani, Irving M. Brown and Rosabel A. Wang for the Bibliography Project Staff, it was pointed out that the edition now presented is primarily to be understood as a pilot edition, offering a sampling of materials with a tentative organisation of entries, and that publishing at this stage seemed necessary not at least for funding purposes as well as to provide a basis for further discussion and to encourage cooperation After a short outline of the background of the project, its principal objectives, its realization and main implications, the members of the Project Staff stated as their most urgent needs for the near future: recommendations for improvement, contributions of bibliographical entries, contacts with pertinent institutions and/or individuals in the various countries, which could lead toward the creation of a network of national and supranational centres of input and coordination with the International Theatre Bibliography Commission of SIBMAS a coordinating unit. Delegates who wished to take part in one of the other activities were asked to enter their names in sheets distributed among them; a request that was granted by some 30 delegates. Finally it was unanimously agreed to bring forward the following motion to be accepted by the General Assembly:
