One year later, by way of an introduction Roger Rennenberg Documents et Témoignages des Arts du Spectacle: Pourquoi et Comment? / Collecting and Recording the Performing Arts: Why and How? Société Internationale des Bibliothèques et des Musées des Arts du Spectacle /International Association of Libraries and Museums of the Performing Arts 20e Congrès International / 20th International Congress Antwerp 4-7 September 1994. Acta. Antwerp : 1995, p. 7 Dear Colleagues and Friends, It is my pleasure to introduce the proceedings of the 20th SIBMAS conference, held in Antwerp from 3 to 7 September 1994 at the Bourla Theatre. It was indeed the twentieth Conference, a milestone and not a breaking point. Published proceedings are important as they are the only tangible remnant of a conference. Moreover, they have a well-structured form - often even more than the actual event - and the published texts are generally more extensive and they have been revised by either the authors or the general editor. It would be a mistake to abandon the tradition of published proceedings for so-calledeconomical reasons. Of course publication does require some energy and some money, but as the costs are partly covered by the conference fee, this aspect should not be exaggerated. So published proceedings mainly represent additional work for those who have organised the conference. But then again, it is such a rewarding and fulfilling task to leave a permanent trace in time of the rare combination that brings together a great many people from all corner sof the earth: enthusiasm and international solidarity in often desperately trouble sometimes. It would indeed be a pity not to carry the SIBMAS-in-printing tradition towards and beyond the threshold of the third millennium. This book includes all speeches that were held and all papers that were received, both grouped under the different sessions of the conference. They are preceeded by the inaugural addresses and followed by a history of twenty SIBMAS conferences Andr頖einstein was so kind to provide me with. Traditionally the proceedings close with the minutes of the general assembly. I hope that you have equally fond memories of this 20th conference
as I have and wish you a pleasant reading. September 1995 20th Congress URL: http://www.sibmas.org/congresses/sibmas94/antw_1.html |
