appearance in Prague, 2D>3D is presented by
the Society of British Theatre Designers. The
exhibition includes set, costume and lighting

25 leading British designers. The exhibition won
the top international award at the 2003 Prague
Quadrennial, as well as two Gold Medals: for
Richard Hudson's set design for Handel's opera
Tamerlano at Teatro alla Pergola, Florence and
for Nicky Gillibrand's costume designs for A
Midsummer Night's Dream at the Royal Shakespeare
Company.
Accompanying the main exhibition
are a fantastical human-sized spider and costumes
for The Hobbit (depicted) and also interactive
displays of virtual set and lighting designs.

A
Great Night Out!
the making of the West EndA Great Night Out!
reflects the glitz, grime and ambition which have
shaped Theatreland.
This exhibition includes historic prints, plans,
maps, posters, theatrical props, photographs and
models from the Musuem's collections and other
sources.
Models and film also explore current issues,
notably the massive investment since 1995 of over
㲰0 million of Lottery funding in rebuilding
publicly subsidised theatre, dance and opera
venues. The exhibition considers how comparable
funding for the commercial theatres, many built
before 1914, can be secured whilst maintaining
the historic integrity of the West End.

by the Theatre Museum thanks to grants from the
