2D>3D - Design for Theatre and Performance

After a national tour and an award-winning appearance in Prague, 2D>3D is presented by the Society of British Theatre Designers. The exhibition includes set, costume and lighting designs for 30 visually stunning productions by 25 leading British designers. The exhibition won the top international award at the 2003 Prague Quadrennial, as well as two Gold Medals: for Richard Hudson's set design for Handel's opera Tamerlano at Teatro alla Pergola, Florence and for Nicky Gillibrand's costume designs for A Midsummer Night's Dream at the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Accompanying the main exhibition are a fantastical human-sized spider and costumes for The Hobbit (depicted) and also interactive displays of virtual set and lighting designs.

Dates: until September 2005

A Great Night Out!
the making of the West End

A Great Night Out! reflects the glitz, grime and ambition which have shaped Theatreland.
This exhibition includes historic prints, plans, maps, posters, theatrical props, photographs and models from the Musuem's collections and other sources.
Models and film also explore current issues, notably the massive investment since 1995 of over 㲰0 million of Lottery funding in rebuilding publicly subsidised theatre, dance and opera venues. The exhibition considers how comparable funding for the commercial theatres, many built before 1914, can be secured whilst maintaining the historic integrity of the West End.

The Redgraves: a family on the public stage

The family story and their theatre work throws light on aspects of social and political history of the time from great-grandfather Cornelius to the generations of Vanessa, Corin and Lynn, and their children.
The exhibition is based on the Archive of Sir Michael Redgrave (1908-1985) which was acquired by the Theatre Museum thanks to grants from the Heritage Lottery Fund, Friends of the V&A and the Friends of the National Libraries.

Dates: Ongoing
