The database covers the period from the inception of the first theater in 1835 to present day. The amount of information will increase in the coming years. In 2018 a new website was created with many new search options.

Photography collection

The Photography collection has a number of historical and contemporary photography of Serbian and Yugoslav theater. The collection is divided into two parts: the first covers the time of the first photo documents about Serbian theater until the end of the Second World War; the second refers to the period from 1944 to present.

In this collection you’ll find portraits, stage photography of performances of the Belgrade theater, photography of art ensembles, jubilee celebrations, private group photography, theater buildings, photography of traveling theater, foreign operations at the opera and in the drama, ballet performances, military theater, amateur theater, foreign theater, theater schools, festivals, movies.
Photography in The Museum of Theatrical Arts of Serbia has a multiple purpose. It primarily serves as a valuable source of knowledge and information on how theater creators looked to, visualize their visual art, the appearance of theater facilities, then as an attractive exhibit at exhibitions at the Museum but also in other institutions as an illustration for various theater publications and studies (anniversaries, monographs, theater histories and more).
