Exhibition: Complete renovation of the Département des Arts du spectacle (Performing Arts Department)
New exhibition space for the Performing Arts Collections in Paris
After more than six years, the historic building of the Bibliothèque nationale de France (National Library of France), called Site Richelieu, is now open to the public. The inauguration of these new spaces is very important and stimulating for the Performing Arts Department.
The reading room has been completely renewed in a contemporary style and gives to the researchers a quiet, light and comfortable place to work. Near the reading room was opened a new exhibition space for performing arts, the Rotonde des Arts du spectacle (100 m2). More than forty pieces are displayed here for the people visiting the site: paintings, sculptures, designs, masks, puppets, manuscripts, etc. The mantel worn by Sarah Bernhardt in the role of Theodora in 1902 shines in the middle. From the Rotonde, people can have a look into a beautiful store of the XIXth century, the Galerie Auguste Rondel, where is stocked the performing arts collection of Auguste Rondel (1858-1934) made of 400,000 documents.
SIBMAS members will have the chance to discover this treasure-filled exceptional location during the next Conference in Paris (5-8 June 2018).
