In April 2023, the CNCS will become the National Centre for Costume AND Stage Design with the inauguration of a new space in the Quartier Villars. Named “La Scène”, these rooms dedicated to set design will be part of the continuity of the visit, by promoting the professions of the performing arts.
On this occasion, the CNCS is also enlarging its reserves to further enrich its costume collection.

Visitors will be able to discover this artistic discipline and its creative process in a completely new way, according to a tour organised in three acts:
– the design, imagined by the scenic designer in dialogue with the director and his dramaturgical intentions, also in connection with the stage space and its technical equipment;
– the production by the set design, construction, painting, sculpture, upholstery and props workshops, professions with rare and specialised know-how;
– the performance thanks to a stage equipped with a set, fly loft, curtains and set elements.

For this opening, the CNCS welcomes the Comédie-Française and honours Eric Ruf, director and set designer.
Sketches, models, storyboards, props, video extracts and also part of the set of “Cyrano de Bergerac”, directed by Denis Podalydes, for which he designed the set in 2006 at the Comédie-Française will be presented. This show was awarded three “Molières” for its direction, sets and costumes by Christian Lacroix. and costumes designed by Christian Lacroix, honorary president of the CNCS.
